FAQ

If you have any questions about The Repair Cafe don't hesitate to send us a message. But, before you do, take a peek at this list of common questions our visitors ask.

How much does getting something repaired cost?

It's free! Well, it can be. The Repair Cafe is run by volunteers and all of our repairers give their time and expertise for free. However, If any parts or resources are needed to repair your item you would discuss this with the repairer and normally you will cover those costs. We also happily accept donations to cover costs like Hall rent, and to save for future projects!

Do you repair xxxxx?

Probably, yes! We have lots of skilled repairers who are keen to try and fix anything you throw at them. But, if you have a more uncommon item you can check our What we can fix page to see if it matches anything there, or send us an email at repaircafesherborne@gmail.com which we'll pass on to our repairers to see if anyone can help.

How do I volunteer?

Our favourite question! You can find out more about volunteering on our Volunteering page, or email repaircafesherborne@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Can I watch my item being repaired?

Yes! in fact, we encourage you to watch and get involved with the repair whenever it's safely possible. One of the Repair Cafe's goals is to get people repairing their own items, and making the process of fixing more friendly. So please do watch and ask questions - our repairers are dying to answer them!

When can I pick up an item that's been left for repair?

Not all items can be repaired in session, and the repairer may need to take your item away to continue working on it. When this happens you'll get a paper receipt which you can bring back the following month to pick your item up.
